WHEN a group of former pupils from the prestigious High School of Glasgow clubbed together in 1919 to buy a 13-acre patch of land in the city's West End, it was as if they were looking into a crystal ball. TORBAY U3A are having a party. At the monthly meeting at Central Church on Wednesday, Torbay U3A will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their parent body, the University of the Third Age Trust. Instead of the usual speaker, members shall be having a social afternoon, with a cream tea, jazz band, quiz etc.
Despite the name, University of the Third Age is not an educational institution; it is merely the coming together of people from all walks of life who are no longer in full time employment (there is no lower age limit) in a wide variety of social activities.
