MORE voters than ever are included in Derby's electoral register thanks to a successful canvassing campaign by the city council. Around 99,000 households - 93% of those eligible - have confirmed their registration by internet or phone or have sent their registration form back to the electoral services team.
Stuart Leslie, electoral registration officer, said: "We have improved on the results of previous canvasses and more electors than ever are included in Derby's electoral register. Registering to vote means that electors can take part in all elections in the city.

THIS week sees the launch of Teignbridge District Council's annual electoral canvass.
This means that Teignbridge residents will be asked to return their voter registration forms or register online or by phone as soon as possible to make sure they are included on the new Electoral Register which is due to be published on December 1. Cllr Mike Walters, Teignbridge's executive spokesman for corporate services, said: "The annual canvass is a major operation required by law, and local people can help keep it simple by replying to the canvass promptly.

Parish councillors in Yatton will be getting a rap on the knuckles following a police investigation into allegations that some members had used the electoral register illegally.
North Somerset Council was alerted in October after concerns were raised that members of Yatton Parish Council had used copies of the electoral register for Claverham without permission.

OPPOSITION politicians have raised questions about alleged voting irregularities in the recent local elections in Monaghan.
Seymour Crawford, a local Fine Gael TD, said he will raise questions in the Dail about a number of Eastern European voters who were registered at houses which were apparently empty at the time of the vote.

WITH a possible postal strike looming, Swansea residents are being urged to return their electoral registration forms quickly. More that 106,000 forms have been delivered to homes across the city to ensure Swansea's electoral register is up to date and everyone eligible has the right to vote.
About two-thirds of them have been returned but Swansea Council is urging those who have not sent them back to act now.

MORE than one million Scots could be denied a vote on independence unless Alex Salmond accepts Westminster's offer of a legally binding referendum, it has been revealed.
Access to the full electoral register is reserved to Westminster, meaning SNP ministers would need to cut a deal with the UK Government to ensure that all four million Scots registered to vote could take part in a Holyrood-organised poll.
