THE Energy Saving Trust tells us that 87% of households plan to cut back on their energy usage this winter to try to cut their fuel bills.
And with the average annual energy bill now about Pounds 1,300 according to the trust, no one will be surprised that most of us are planning to cut back - especially when we're told that the average bill was Pounds 522 only eight years ago. That's a 155% increase, over a period when average income only rose by 20%.

After two very cold winters - and this one may have started off mild, but is far from over - and rises in energy costs, homeowners have realised that they must take urgent action to stay affordably warm during the colder months. Heating takes up about 45 per cent of energy use in a typical home, so if you can reduce heating costs without losing any comfort, your bank balance will be eternally grateful. Apart from simple and very sensible improvements like draughtproofing and proper insulation, the best improvement that you can make is to invest in a modern low energy heating system.
Renewable energy is one of the many "buzz phrases" at this time, and it does make sense to look into the possibilities of different systems on the market.

CONTINUALLY 'greening up' its act is a vitally important 'tough times' sales tool for Lister Trade Frames. With heating bills rocketing - and no sign of slowing - customers are increasingly keen on the window, door and conservatory manufacturer's energy-saving credentials. And that is great for the leading-edge business, employing more than 100 people, at a time when almost anything to do with property is in the doldrums.
Managing director Mark Warren, pictured right, said: "We used to encourage installers - our main customers - to explain the environmental and potential cost-saving benefits of our products. "But that is now very much end-customer driven, with homeowners wanting to know more and more about that aspect over the past two years." Recognition of the company's performance ha...
