MORE than three years ago my web developer at Refresh Creations wrote an article which I published dealing with the question of formatting a hard drive so that the contents were completely unrecoverable. Whether you plan to sell your computer on at the end of its life, recycle it, give it to charity or even chuck it at the tip, it is imperative that you dispose of any potentially sensitive data on the hard drive.
Music on demand in every room in the house was the aim. So I bought yards and yards of speaker cable, wired it up to the audio out connection at the back of the immense stacking system in the living room, and when I wanted music in the bedroom I carried the speakers there. Same with the kitchen, even the bathroom. With doors open, I could even skip tracks and adjust volume with the remote control. It worked, but it wasn't exactly efficient. The advent of the iPod changed all that. Now every room has a speaker dock, instead of lumping around speakers, I simply plug the iPod in wherever I happen to be. But even that's wearing thin.
