Last Monday's WI open meeting brought an interesting and enjoyable talk by Nick Fresson about the history of his home through several centuries and both villages through some millennia. His attention to detail in the renovation of the property was astounding. This was all accompanied with a display of ancient bones, artefacts, maps and documents. Followed by classic WI offerings of tea, sandwiches and cakes, this was a splendid way of escaping a miserable November evening. Work on the BADS production of Mike H a rd i n g 's "Comfort & Joy" continues apace with increasingly urgent entreaties and/or threats to the cast to perfect their lines and conquer their neuroses. Christmas threatens with next Saturday's craft fayre from 10am-4pm at t...

Ashchurch&Northway Diana Bailey 01684 292653 bailey-d3@sky.com -- When the parish split was forced upon us, the chair man's chain was divided, Ashchurch Rural Parish Council having the fob and Northway retaining the chain. Consequently the chain has been unusable. Last year Councillor Alan Snarey came up with an idea for a new parish logo and another Councillor funded the formal design process.
Much as it wanted and needed a complete chain Northway Parish Council didn't see fit to spend public money on replacing the fob, which was when Alan and Wendy Snarey stepped in offering to pay for the new fob bearing our new logo. Now the chairman of our parish can wear the badge of office with pride, knowing the electorate hasn't born the cost. We thank you Wendy and Alan, a wonderful gesture. -...

T'S that annual fortnight time of the year. Before the package holiday revolution, it used to be so simple. People just went to Porthcawl BC (Before Concrete). All you needed was a windbreak, a Thermos and a towelling tube.
Indeed, was there ever a more useful holiday garment than the latter? Floor-length, with a drawstring at the neck, it was designed to enable bathers changing on a crowded beach to do so in complete privacy. It also ensured no-one knew you were engaged in the delicate process of extracting sand from your nether regions.
