JOHN FORKIN (JF): Is it right to promote Derby as a hi-tech city? The numbers from the Government are stunning. They show that 12% of the Derby workforce are involved in hitech functions - four times the national average.

Long in the deep freeze, Cold War politics have returned to the Middle East with a vengeance. As Iran plays hard to get with the West over the issue of developing nuclear weapons the country has triggered a dangerous arms race with Israel, allegedly already a nuclear power and its most potent rival in the Middle East. At present it's confined to a proxy war with assassination and sabotage as the main weapons, but there are fears, expressed yesterday by Foreign Secretary William Hague, that it could be sparked into the real thing.
When it comes to engaging in political sabotage the Iranian intelligence services are masters of the black arts. Over the years their support for the Shia terrorist group, Hezbollah, has caused Israel all manner of problems and now the Iranians have shown they ...

I SHOULD like to give Tony Bennett (Views of the North, March 12) the benefit of the doubt and assume that, like many other people, his lack of knowledge of nuclear power leads him to believe that the only form of nuclear power is, as he describes, nuclear fission (the splitting of heavy atoms like uranium).
If he, and many others like him, cares to research the subject rather than jumping to misleading conclusions, he will discover that there is another form of nuclear power called nuclear fusion.
