Forty years ago, Linda Holmes tasted fame when she topped the charts with one of Britain's first girl bands. Long before the Spice Girls and Sugar Babes, her band, The Paper Dolls, could be seen performing on Top of the Pops wearing tiny mini- skirts.

TESS Milligan is getting all dolled up to be a world record breaker - all in the name of charity. The fundraiser from Cramlington, Northumberland, is out to create the longest chain of paper dolls on the planet.

Created for the young and young at heart, SILK features some of the region's most inventive performers, including world percussionist Brendan Murphy and international choreographer Apple Yang. While Exeter-based jeweller Kye Tew likes to trawl antique shops, reclamation yards and car boot sales for her bespoke jewellery, you're likely to find Plymouth's Natalie Mitchell trawling the aisles of the nearest super market. I make most of my stuff out of everyday objects and recycled things because I like to be eco-friendly," says Natalie. "I like making pasta necklaces and earrings, jewellery out of paper, maybe porcelain dolls or bracelets out of dominoes or pencils... any bits I find really.
