  • The Sea Corinne Bailey Rae ..... Corinne had begun to compose songs for The Sea before the untimely death of her husband, Jason, in 2008, so the overall mood of most of the tracks here is darker than her 2006 debut. She opens with Are You Here, a track about and dedicated to Jason. After a stilted opening with understated guitars, it bursts into an almost psychedelic celebration. Whether songs such as Diving For Hearts, Blackest Lilly and Paper Dolls pre-dated his passing or not, thematically and musically they are far removed from her jazzy pop template. Closer and I Would Like To Call It Beauty are more in keeping with what you might expect, but sadness seems to underpin most of the tracks.
