Taxi drivers will no longer be able to charge 40p extra for taking passengers from Plymouth railway station, if proposals by the council are accepted.
At present taxi firms have to win a tender to operate from the taxi rank at the station and are allowed to charge passengers an extra fee. Plymouth Taxis Co-Operative now provides the service.

MINISTERS have been accused of taking a "divisive" approach to Scotland's islands after extending a controversial ferry subsidy on the Hebridean Isles but excluding Orkney and Shetland.
Transport Minister Keith Brown announced the Road Equivalent Tariff (RET), which has seen fares cut by up to half on the Western Isles, Coll and Tiree since being introduced as a pilot in 2008, would be made permanent.

The privately operated Western Ferries is to build two new ferries for its Gourock/Dunoon service, and says its plan to launch services to Arran is still alive but is delayed by uncertainty over the fate of Caledonian MacBrayne.
