UNION chiefs have welcomed indications from the head of Indian steel giant Tata that a Thai steel company is pursuing talks about the potential purchase of a mothballed Teesside steel plant. Community Union General Secretary Michael Leahy has welcomed reports from Asia that Tata managing director Hemant Nerurkar had confirmed that Thai Steel maker SSI is seeking to purchase Teesside Cast Products in Redcar.
