Summary


SOME depressing news slipped out last week on the sale of East Mains Farm in East Lothian and a flock of sheep for (pounds) 800,000. This was no ordinary farm and these were no ordinary sheep. They were transgenic sheep grazing on land owned by collapsed biotech company PPL Therapeutics, the company which became famous in 1996 for creating Dolly the sheep, the world's first cloned mammal.

The depressing thing was that the price tag for the sheep and the fields exceeded the (pounds) 760,000 figure which PPL achieved some weeks ago on the disposal of its intellectual property rights to the technology which enabled PPL to create Dolly.
