Summary


There's one name the contenders for this year's Open championship won't want to see at the top of the leaderboard when the going starts to get seriously tough on the back nine of the final day. His first name, translated from Hindi, means "victory" and if Vijay Singh goes one better than last year at Sandwich, the old claret jug will be his to add to his Masters green jacket and a USPGA title.

Two years ago at the Shell Houston Open when Singh ripped the windy Texas Open course apart, his fellow competitor, Jose Maria Olazabal, said: "It's astonishing. It's hard to believe what this guy can do when he gets hot."
