Ethical funds are for "socially responsible" investors who want to think their money does some good, backing companies committed to making a positive contribution to the community or the environment.

That usually means no holdings in firms involved with arms, gambling, the fur trade, tobacco and pornography, or companies with a poor environmental record or known to use animal testing for cosmetic purposes, or child labour.
