The Bank of England's widely expected decision to leave its official interest rate unchanged at five per cent for another month yesterday was for the most part accepted as necessary in the West Midlands, but with some foreboding.

Katie Teasdale at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce set the tone for many when she pointed to a recent survey by the Chamber showing widespread unease in the region that rising inflation poses a serious threat.
