Dear Editor, We should welcome the fact that the National Audit Office (NAO) is to investigate the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform in order to assess its supervisory and monitoring performance when overseeing the Post Office's programme to close 2500 branches nationally - some 26 in Birmingham alone.

For there is a legitimate concern as to whether it has adequately monitored the way the Post Office has engaged with those local communities threatened by the removal of these vital lifelines.
