BESTWAY Cash & Carry, the retail chain owned by Sir Anwar Pervez , the entrepreneur and former bus conductor, has taken over Batleys, a rival cash-and-carry business, for pounds 100m.
The deal, which was signed late on Friday, creates a 49-strong chain with a turnover of pounds 1.6bn. The combined group will be the second largest cash-and-carry business in the UK. Bestway's takeover of Batleys is also likely to increase pressure on Booker, the market leader owned by Big Food Group, which is itself being acquired by Baugur, the Icelandic retailer.See the full content of this document
