THE Army general blamed for the military slum housing crisis has run up bills worth thousands of pounds on a lavish refit of his own grace-and-favour residence.

The Adjutant General, Lt Gen Sir Freddie Viggers, the senior officer in charge of family welfare, also spent Pounds 2,090 of taxpayers' cash on a ride-on lawnmower and Pounds 2,686 on a new dinner service.
