THE journey that was to end in England's worst terrorist atrocity began in the Leeds suburb of Beeston. It was Wednesday evening, and Hasib Hussain, 19, had told his mother Maniza he was off to London with his mates to visit some friends.

Hussain and two others - Shehzad Tanweer, 22, and Mohammed Sadique Khan, 30 - met at Tanweer's home in Colwyn Road, Beeston, where Tanweer had a hired car ready for the journey south.

From there the three set off for Luton, a journey of about 160 miles.

Whether they set off on Wednesday evening or in the early hours of Thursday is not clear.

But it is likely that by the time they were on the M1 they already had the bombs with them.

One of the addresses raided yesterday was a house in the Hyde Park Road area of Burley. Police sources have described it as the bomb factory.
