SAINT-GOBAIN'S hostile Pounds 3.7 billion offer for Britain's biggest plasterboard maker, BPB, has focused City attention back on the rest of the building supplies sector as hopes of further consolidation within the industry start to grow.
Our biggest builders' merchant, Wolseley, was among the best blue- chip performers, climbing 27p to 1155p closely followed by brick and cement maker Hanson, 111/2p better at 590p. Travis Perkins was another star performer adding 13p at 1580p, while BSS put on 9p at 319p.
