Summary
The lively debate in Norway over which position boys should be in when urinating (International News, October 15) shows once again the profound cultural lacuna caused by the lack of a classical education. As long ago as the fifth century BC, Herodotus noted during his travels in Egypt that the men peed sitting down while women did so standing up.
Any Norwegian outraged at the prospect of boys sitting down to urinate may rail at the flouting of custom but should not venture further to state that it is unnatural, or "an assault on God's creations'', as a political party leader, Vidar Kleppe, put it.See the full content of this document
