WIMBLEDON, SO often the scene of British shame over the standard of its tennis players, will hopefully this year be the conduit for a prouder future. Roger Draper, the new chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association, intends to take the opportunity that the Championships afford to talk to the game's leading figures before deciding on the way forward for British tennis.
After last week's blood-letting, when three high-profile members of the LTA's senior management structure were dismissed, Draper will not be rushed into making new appointments. "We've had 50 years of getting lots of things wrong,'' he said yesterday. "Now we've got a great opportunity to get things right.
