STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS1987 No. 1359EDUCATION, ENGLAND AND WALESThe Education (School Government) Regulations 1987Made 29th July 1987Laid before Parliament 7th August 1987Coming into force 1st September 1987In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 8(6), (7) and (10), 16(2), 36(2), 62 and 63 of, and paragraphs 10(4), 12(3) and 22(5) of Schedule 2 to, the Education (No. 2) Act 1986[1] and all other powers enabling them in that behalf the Secretary of State for Education and Science, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, hereby make the following Regulations:PART IGENERALCitation and commencement1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Government) Regulations 1987 and shall come into force on 1st September 1987.Revocations2. The regulations specified in Schedule 1 are, to the extent to which they remain in force by virtue of the operation of section 17(2) of the Interpretation Act 1978[2] hereby revoked.Interpretation3. Except where the context otherwise requires, in these Regulations-(a) "the 1986 Act" means the Education (No. 2) Act 1986;(b) any reference to a school is a reference to a school or new school which is, or will be, a county, voluntary or maintained special school;(c) any reference to a governing body, in relation to a school, is a reference to the governing body or temporary governing body of the school, whether that body was constituted before or after the coming into force on 1st September 1987 of sections 1 and 12 of the 1986 Act; and any reference to a governor is a reference to a member of such a governing body;(d) any reference to a governing instrument, in relation t...
