Summary


MR WRIGHT'S letter (Y can't I be first) and the follow-up from Mr Allen brought back memories of my ATS days during the war.

I worked as a young typist in HQ, where the details of all male personnel in the camp were kept. These cards were housed in a wooden cabinet with a primitive card index system - first tray AD, second tray DG, etc. It was my job to update these cards, extract those promoted and type out new ones for recent arrivals.

About once a month I would also be requested to extract about 50 cards of men meeting certain criteria as they were needed in other areas, possibly overseas.
