Summary


GONGS being all the rage in rugby circles, this column would be failing in its duty ('yet again' do you say?) not to seize the moment and dole out a few different ones, not so much to the great and the good but to the good, the bad and the ugly.

The alternative awards are not made lightly but come after weeks agonising over who should get what in the XV special cases and, in one or two instances, headcases, for 2003. A year without precedent in the history of the sport has thrown up a multitude of deserving individuals. However, those who missed out on some of the categories will be mightily relieved.
