WESTCOUNTRY rail services operator FirstGroup said trading during the three months to the end of June had gone as expected and that 3,500 jobs had been shed as part of a cost-cutting plan.

The company, which has bus operations in the UK and North America as well as British rail franchises, said yesterday it was on track to make annual savings of about Pounds 200 million.
