Summary

ANDREW FLINTOFF is likely to take the next step to becoming England's World Cup captain when the squad for the one-day series against Sri Lanka is announced on Wednesday.

Michael Vaughan's continuing recovery means Flintoffmay soon be relieved of the Test captaincy, but there is little prospect of Vaughan being risked in the upcoming one-day action starting with a trip to Ireland on June 13, followed by a Twenty20match at the Rose Bowl two days later and five further one-day internationals. With the HIGH AND MIGHTY: Kevin Pietersen hits Murali for six but he was out next ball possibility that Vaughan may decide to give up the short form of the game in a bid to extend his Test career, Flintoff's reappointment to lead the one-day side would be a clear signal that he is in line for the job at next year's World Cup in the West Indies.
