"HMMM, good question,'' said Ernie Els after being asked whether he could consider 2007 a good year if he did not win a major. He tried out a few answers, talking about momentum and getting back into the top three. Then he said that he couldn't be disappointed if he finished second in all four. But deep down Els knows that an outcome like that would rip him apart. He needs to win a major.

The South African said: "If I can get some good golf going I feel I have a really good chance at the Masters. There's some good memories from the US Open at Oakmont [where Els won in 1994]. The British Open is at Carnoustie and then the PGA is at Southern Hills.
