Summary
Emma Taylor and Lorelei Sharkey are the real-life Sex and the City girls. Just don't say that in front of them. The pair, who have written a new sex manual together, are not too hot on comparisons with Carrie Bradshaw, the key character from the hit US show. "The only thing we have in common with her is that we use laptops," says Sharkey (who is on the right in the picture). Taylor nods her assent. "People have this image of what we do as being really sexy," she says. "They think of us sitting there wearing silky negligees while we write, throwing each other grapes. The reality is we're sitting at home wearing old sweatpants."
Taylor, 30, and Sharkey, 31 - who go by the pen names of Em and Lo - met five years ago while working for an American website, nerve.com. They co-wrote a sex column subtitled "advice from near experts", but decided to turn their hand to writing their quirkily titled guide, The Big Bang, after being disappointed with the manuals that lined bookshop shelves. "All the sex manuals we'd seen were cheesy and hippyish," explains Taylor. "They took it all far too seriously. We wanted to write something that was much more fun and straightforward."See the full content of this document
