I KNOW the trend of Irish weddings going foreign is still growing, but this week's story of how one celebration went wrong in the Dominican Republic might force people to think again.

Donna Vickers from Dublin was attending her nephew's wedding in the 'tropical paradise'. But, unfortunately, their Caribbean dream turned sour when Donna suffered a heart attack and a local hospital demanded $25,000 for the operation. In a panic, Donna's family contacted the Gerry Ryan Show on 2fm, which promptly swung into action. One of Gerry's listeners contacted relatives in the Dominican Republic who immediately travelled to the hospital to help, while the show's generous listeners raised the money within minutes.
