Summary


ONCE again, it didn't feel like we had much of a summer this year.

In late September 1972, however, Tynemouth parks and sands committee decided that because the summer seemed longer than usual, they would extend the lifeguards' spell of duty. Malcolm Tune, 21, of Whitley Bay, was well prepared to sit out his chilly vigil with sweater and a brolly.
