WHILE MOST of her subjects yearn to pick up an honour from her (even to the extent of being prepared to pay good money to a political party) the Queen is finding it maddeningly difficult to acknowledge the enormous contribution to our national life of the man who is closest to her heart.
Her Majesty celebrates her diamond wedding anniversary in November and one idea, posited by senior courtiers and to which she has taken with great enthusiasm, is to mark the occasion by making the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Consort.
