MARS was last night forced into a humiliating climbdown over its decision revealed in last week's Mail on Sunday to start using animal products in its chocolate.

The company admitted that it had been swamped by thousands of complaints following our report that it had begun using rennet in its products, which include Snickers, Maltesers, Bounty and Galaxy.
