ANDREW Neil, Sir Trevor McDonald, Sir John Tusa, Sir Menzies Campbell, former Lord Chancellor Derry Irvine and Michael Cockerell were among the guests at the thanksgiving service for former Newsnight presenter Donald MacCormick at St Andrews church in Ham.

Despite the south-west London location of the service, MacCormick was a proud Scot who cut his teeth in Glasgow at the same time as Neil. His old friend gave the address in which he recalled how difficult it was 40 years ago to become a BBC presenter as a Scot.
