PENSIONERS look set to get poorer in retirement compared to the rest of the population. New research shows that the cost of running a home in retirement is set to soar in the next five years.

Bills for council tax and utilities are set to grow at twice the rate of inflation, according to a new Datamonitor report commissioned by the Prudential. This will adversely affect pensioner households, which spend a larger proportion of their income on these necessities than younger households.
