Summary


THE Hercules - the largest aircraft ever built - made its first and only flight.

Designed by the eccentric aircraft pioneer Howard Hughes, it was built with birch and spruce - hence its nickname the Spruce Goose. It had a wing span longer than a football pitch to carry more than 700 troops for the US Army.
