On February 16, we awoke from a night of pouring rain, to raging rivers, flooded homes and properties and the sure knowledge that the region was facing a disaster. John Myers reports on where we are now: MORE than 550 people are still unable to return to their homes a month after the onset of the the Manawatu-Wanganui region's worst recorded flood.

On February 16, 2004, the region awoke to find itself living the opening chapter of a disaster that spread and deepened as a widespread rain dump of more than 280mm swept down its river systems.
