As we reveal today, hundreds of British soldiers who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles face the prospect of extensive investigations - and possible prosecutions - for their involvement in past operations in which terrorists were killed.
Such a process - referred to in official documents as a "Historic Review'' into "unresolved killings'' - is already under way. The Government has set up a specific Army unit that will work with officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland in order to trace soldiers involved in the operations that fall under review.
