Summary


ASHLEY GILES will put his feet up this week while England's selectors debate which spinner will replace him for the Lord's Test against Sri Lanka which starts on Thursday week. The question is perceived to be: Shaun Udal, to bat at number eight and bowl off- spin, or Monty Panesar, to bowl left-arm and do not much else.

Giles has no option except to put his feet up after the operation last Tuesday to cure the condition known as Gilmore's Groin. By the end of this week he is due to start gentle jogging and driving a car, and in ordinary circumstances he would be playing again within a couple of months, but his hereditary hip condition remains to be overcome. Still, it is now foreseeable that the Ashes-winning team will play together again.
