TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has bowed to pressure from the largest farming union in an attempt to escape a disastrous defeat in the Lisbon Treaty referendum.

After frantic last-minute talks, the Government said it would use its veto to block any World Trade Organisation deal that is not in the country's interests.
