IT HAD taken her 96 days, 12 hours, 39 minutes and one second and she'd travelled 27,479 miles through some of the most dangerous waters in the world. But nothing could have prepared British sailor Sam Davies for the welcome from the hundreds of boats and thousands of well-wishers who came out to greet her as she crossed the finish line of the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world yacht race in third place early yesterday.
The 34-year-old Cambridge engineering graduate, who captured the imagination of people all over the world with her daily bilingual radio broadcasts as well as pictures and blog posted on her website, became the second-fastest woman, after fellow Briton Ellen MacArthur, to complete the race.See the full content of this document
