TWO years ago, it was sunny. This week the sky over Le Bourget airfield in Paris has been wet and grey. But the dismal backdrop to the Paris Air Show is perhaps a fitting one for an aerospace industry that is also battling against the worst economic headwinds in decades.

The industry descends on this unremarkable Parisian suburb every two years for the biggest air show in the world, one that attracts more than 400,000 visitors over the course of the week.
