Summary


IN response to the article Heavy Bins Will Stay Full in The Sentinel (July 29), I would like to express my feelings on the matter.

Remember the 60s and 70s when the bin men were real men and not wimps? They used to walk all the way round to the back of properties and lift a heavy metal bin upon their shoulder, carry it up the street and empty it into the dust cart (as they were called then). When they emptied the bin, the dust from coal fire ashes blew everywhere (even in their eyes). And they took them all the way back to where they got them from and even closed the gate on their way out.

Did they ever complain? No they didn't, they had a job to do and got on with it. They didn't have bins on wheels; they had to carry them no matter how heavy they were.
