Eco warriors should focus on polluters
ECO-WARRIORS need to climb out of their rabbit holes and praise the UK for the closure of dirty coal-fired power stations, whilst at the same time recognise the need for the cleaner gas-fired power stations of the CCGT variety, that is, until truly environmentally friendly power stations become a reality. Unreliable and intermittent large scale wind and solar, including dirty, potentially dangerous, and horrendously costly fission stations are not the answer.

Concerns over Trust tenancy for farm
I write as a member of the National Trust living in Wales. I am horrified to hear that the Trust proposes to wind up a valuable agricultural scholarship and instead seek a tenant for Llyndy Isaf farm, without regard to the fact that Nant Gwynant is a Welsh-speaking area.

¦ Plant summer-flowering bulbs, corms and tubers such as gladioli into pots but keep them sheltered from frost until next month. Lilies can be planted directly outside if the soil isn't saturated.

QI've a number of bamboo (Phyllostachys) that all started to flower last year. I cut out the flowering canes and they seemed fine but this year a number of canes are dying back.
