183 kids went missing from care system

Freedom of Information requests have revealed that over that period some 72 children in the care of Cheshire East Council, 61 in the care of Cheshire West and Chester Council, and 50 in the care of Warrington Borough Council were reported missing by their carers

Five children aged 12 went missing from Cheshire East Council's care, while Cheshire West and Chester Council reported five children under the age of 13 missing.

A total of 1,610 individual children were recorded as missing by Cheshire

Constabulary in the most recent 12 month period published by the National Crime Agency.

Councillor Robert Cernik, Cabinet member for children and families at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: "We know that children in our care have experienced different elements of childhood trauma and we take any incident where they are missing from our care extremely seriously.

"A child is recorded as missing from care whenever they have not shared with their carer where they are at any point.

"Clear safeguarding procedures are followed when a child in our care is reported missing. We work collaboratively and quickly with the police and other partners to maintain contact and understand any key specific risks for that child or young person.
