The constantly growing complexity of society, the growth in size of many organisations,
the expanding information demands, the shortage of specialised human skills, these and
other factors have increased the interest in a disciplined and analytical approach to the
gathering,
storage, processing, selection and dissemination of information.
A system is an orderly arrangement of interdependent activities and related procedures
which implements and facilitates the performance of a major activity of an organisation.
Management Information Systems are planned and organised approaches to supplying
executives with intelligence aids that facilitate the managerial process.
A Management Information System is an optimal integration of:
technology (computer hardware and software);
"brainware" (problem-solving techniques);
top management involvement in efficient information resources management;
