The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 1 and 20 of the Legal Aid Act 1974( a), hereby makes the following Regulations:--

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Legal Advice and Assistance (Financial Conditions) Regulations 1986 and shall come into operation on the day after the day on which they are approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.

2. For the capital sum of £800 specified in section 1(1) of the Legal Aid Act 1974 there shall be substituted, in relation to assistance by way of representation, the sum of £3000.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations increase the disposable capital limit for the availability of assistance by way of representation under the Legal Aid Act 1974 from £800 to £3000. The disposable capital limit for legal advice and assistance other than assistance by way of representation remains at £800.
