The Maximum Number of Judges Order 2003

Made 20th March 2003

Coming into force in accordance with article 1

The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas a draft of this Order has, in accordance with section 4(5) of the Supreme Court Act 19811, been laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 4(4) of the Supreme Court Act 1981, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

S-1 This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Judges Order...

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Judges Order 2003 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

2. Section 4(1)(e) of the Supreme Court Act 19812, prescribing the maximum number of puisne judges of the High Court, shall be amended so as further to increase the maximum number of those judges to 108.

This Order in Council amends section 4(1)(e) of the Supreme Court Act 1981 by increasing the maximum number of puisne judges of the High Court from 106 to 108.
