The Army, Air Force and Naval Discipline Acts (Continuation) Order 1999

Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1(2) of the Armed Forces Act 19961, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:–

S-1 This Order may be cited as the Army, Air Force and Naval...

1. This Order may be cited as the Army, Air Force and Naval Discipline Acts (Continuation) Order 1999.

S-2 The Army Act 1955 , the Air Force Act 1955 and the Naval...

2. The Army Act 19552, the Air Force Act 19553and the Naval Discipline Act 19574shall continue in force for a period of twelve months beginning on the day immediately following 31st August 1999 (which is the date on which those Acts would otherwise expire).

Section 1(1) of the Armed Forces Act 1996 provides that the Army Act 1955, the Air Force Act 1955 and the Naval Discipline Act 1957 (“the Service Discipline Acts”) should continue in force until 31st August 1997 and should then expire unless continued in force in accordance with that section. The Army, Air Force and Naval Discipline Acts (Continuation) Orders 1997 and 1998 (S.I. 1997/1745and S.I. 1998/1499respectively) have each provided for the continuation of the Service Discipline Acts for a period of 12 months. Under the 1998 Order, those Acts will continue in force until 31st August 1999. This Order enables the Service Discipline Acts to continue in force for a further period of 12 months beyond that date.
