The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Sunderland)
Regulations 2017

Coming into force - - 21st July 2017
The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the
vicinity of Sunderland by reason of the intended holding of the Sunderland International Airshow.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by
article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the A ir Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Sunderland)
Regulations 2017 and come into force on 21st July 2017.
Interpretation
2. In regulation 3(2) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).
Restricted airspace
3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (3), and during the periods specified in paragraph (2), no aircraft is
to fly below 8,000 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by straight lines joining
successively the following points—
(a) 545930N 0012504W,
(b) 545950N 0011901W,
(c) 545351N 0011759W,
(d) 545332N 0012402W, and
(e) 545930N 0012504W.
(2) The periods referred to in paragraph (1) are—
(a) between 1200 hours and 2100 hours on 21st July 2017, and
(b) between 1100 hours and 1630 hours on 22nd and 23rd July 2017.
(3) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft flying with the permission of the Sunderland
International Airshow flying display director.
(b) In these Regulations Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).
