The Aliens (Employment) (Visiting Forces) Order, 1954

In pursuance of the power conferred upon me by Article 22 of the Aliens Order, 1953(a), I hereby make the following Order:—

1. An alien to whom this Order applies shall not—

(a) enter into, or continue in, any employment in the service of an employer in Great Britain without the permission of the Minister of Labour and National Service or in Northern Ireland without the permission of the Ministry of Labour and National Insurance for Northern Ireland; or

(b) become, or continue to be, engaged in any business, profession or occupation for reward, otherwise than in employment in the service of an employer, in the United Kingdom without the permission of the Secretary of State:

Provided that an alien may—

(a) continue in any employment in the service of an employer if before the coming into operation of this Order he entered into that employment with the permission of the Minister of Labour and National Service or the Ministry of Labour and National Insurance for Northern Ireland;

(b) continue to be engaged in any business, profession or occupation for reward, otherwise than in employment in the service of an employer, if before the coming into operation of this Order he engaged in that business, profession or occupation with the permission of the Secretary of State.

2. Exemption from this Order may be granted in writing to any alien by or on behalf of the Secretary of State, and any exemption so granted may be for a specified period and subject to conditions and may be cancelled or varied by or on behalf of the Secretary of State.

3. This Order applies to—

(a) any alien who is serving in the United Kingdom as a member of any of the armed forces of any of the foreign powers specified in paragraph (3)(b) of Article 24 of the Aliens Order, 1953 (namely, Belgium, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal or the...
