Currently, the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home have eight dogs waiting for a new owner, with some sitting patiently for over 400 days to find them.

Bagel

* Six years old (approx)

* Beagle/pug

* Male

The EDCH said: "Bagel is looking for an experienced dog owner who has some experience with separation anxiety, and is committed to working with him to improve his anxiety issues. He needs to be the only pet in a quiet adult only home without children visiting.

"He would like a home with a secure garden. Bagel is an anxious boy who doesn't cope well with being left alone, travelling in the car, or having visitors.

"He is very friendly with people that he knows well, and likes to have fun playing with squeaky and soft toys. He loves going for long walks where he can enjoy sniffing new things and rolling around in the grass. Bagel is not keen on other dogs and can be reactive if they get too close or bother him, but he doesn't mind seeing dogs when he is out if they keep their distance."

Biscuit

* Three years old (approx)

* Cross Collie/Staffie

* Female

The EDCH said: "Biscuit is a nervous girl who is wary of strangers and needs a owner who will be prepared to visit her a few times so she can get to know them. She is looking for an owner with experience of resource guarding, who preferably has had a nervous dog in the past. She needs a adult only home, with no visiting children under the age of 16, where she will be the only pet. She will need a home with a garden of her own which is not shared with other neighbours.

"Biscuit is a super high energy girl who is very independent and prefers to have her own space to play with her toys, rather...
